The ability to control metal ions in aqueous systems is vital to the success of many food and beverage applications and processes. Flavor, color, clarity, stability, and vitamin content of foods and beverages are sensitive to metal-catalyzed oxidative breakdown. VERSENEā„¢ CA and VERSENE NA chelating agents can be used to control those metal ions to improve product quality, enhance consumer appeal, and extend shelf-life. Effective at low concentrations, chelating agents are frequently more economical than citrates or phosphates.

There are five major food and beverage categories in which VERSENE chelating agents are used: beverages; dressings, sauces, and mayonnaise; canned vegetables, canned seafood, and pickled products.
